Michigan State suspends player for spring game The Spartans hold one of the last spring games in the nation (April 30), but unfortunately, the coaching staff will not be able to evaluate junior defensive end Corey Freeman. Freeman, who played in 11 games last season and recorded just six tackles, was ticketed on Monday for driving with a suspended license, as well as a misdemeanor and not disclosing to an officer that he was carrying a concealed weapon, according to the Detroit Free-Press. However, Freeman did have a permit for the weapon, but still will face up to a maximum of 93 days in jail and a $500 fine for driving with a suspended license. Denard Robinson's Heisman campaign Last season, the Michigan quarterback stole the headlines early on in the season with his spectacular plays with his legs and arm. However, Robinson saw a slight decline towards the end of the season, losing the final two games. Entering the 2011 season, Robinson is considered a candidate for the Heisman trophy and deservingly so. He can take over games, causes defenses to stray away from their game plan, and can execute an ESPN Top Ten play at any moment. He ran for 1,702 yards and threw for 2,570 yards -- over 4,000 yards in total. The Cornhuskers didn't get the chance last season to defend against Robinson so it will be interesting to see how Nebraska game plans for Robinson in 2011 now that they have a full season of tape to dissect. Minnesota and their 265-pound problem Entering the off-season, the Golden Gophers had hoped that Moses Alipate would contend with MarQueis Gray for the starting quarterback job. But when Alipate walked through the doors of Minnesota's facilities, the coaching staff was exposed to a 265 pound quarterback -- 30 pounds heavier than he was as a freshman. Now, the Gophers appear to be set on starting Gray at quarterback, even though he only had eight attempts last season as a quarterback and spent most of his time at wide receiver (42 REC, 5 TD.) In the spring game, the coaches claim that Alipate did, in fact, lose a handful of pounds and impressed them in the scrimmage. Purdue to play three quarterbacks? Following Purdue's spring game, head coach Danny Hope stated that, "We're going to find a way for all three of those guys to help us win, regardless of how it shakes down on the depth chart." Purdue does have three quarterbacks on the depth chart: Rob Henry, Robert Marve, and Caleb Terbush. But is it smart to try all three in the same season? The starter, as it appears now, will be Henry, who finished with a 112.38 rating in 2010, while Marve and TerBush will compete for the backup role. A former Miami recruit, Marve is the most likely of the two to start at one point this season ahead of Henry. Northwestern to play Notre Dame, Stanford In a non-roster story, the Northwestern football team will begin a two-game series against Notre Dame that will be held in 2014 at South Bend and then again in 2018 at Evanston. The two teams have not played each other since 1995 -- Northwestern won. Also, Northwestern announced a four-game series that will begin in 2019. The games will occur in four consecutive seasons. - Josh Harvey -
