Nebraska signee Daniel Davie made Husker fans remember why they wanted the Beatrice star on Saturday…
Davie on Broekemeier: "Scholarship Material"
Gatorade Player of the Year wasn't enough. Nor was being Captain of the Super All-State football squad in the Lincoln Journal Star. Aurora quarterback Tyson Broekemeier needed to add Shrine Bowl MVP honors to his resume, if they actually handed out a MVP. The future Nebraska walk-on threw for 371 yards and five touchdowns on Saturday, going 30 of 37 in the process. He also showed his ability to get out of the pocket, rushing for 36 yards, leading his South squad to a 41-20 win over the North. "It's a lot of fun to be able to play here," Broekemeier told the Aurora News Register . "A lot of people know my season was cut short, so it was good to get out one more time in high school." While Broekemeier wasn't the only future Husker in the game's attendance, he did steal the headlines, even finding Nebraska signee Daniel Davie (Beatrice) for a touchdown pass. "I saw great throws from him all week," said Davie. "He definitely knows how to get you the ball. He puts the ball where no one can get it. He throws the best ball that I have caught in all my years of playing high school football. "I feel like he is scholarship material if you are looking for a quarterback. I feel like he's been slept on a lot. He can definitely put up the stats." So does Broekemeier remind Davie of another quarterback? "I feel like a lot of people think he is too small to play at the D-1 level, but he compares to Drew Brees in my book. Brees proved everyone wrong and I think Tyson can play at the D-1 level." Today, the 6-foot-1, 175 pound walk-on moves into the Nebraska dorms. He goes from Shrine Bowl star to lowly freshman. Nebraska fans can only hope he climbs the ladder again. In 2010, he threw for 2047 yards and 31 touchdowns, adding 630 yards on the ground. Josh Harvey has covered college football and recruiting for Fox Sports & Scout.com since 2008.
