Offer around the corner?

It’s been a busy summer for Class of 2013 prospect Dillon Gartner. The standout lineman from Gothenburg (Nebr.) started out hitting combines and eventually moved over to hitting individual camps at various schools, including Nebraska. Gartner has wrapped up his summer though and although he doesn’t have an offer yet one could be coming at any point.

Dillon Gartner should be finally home for the rest of the summer before the start of fall camp. Gartner was recently over in Ames, Iowa taking in the Iowa State camp. According to his dad, Randy Gartner, the Iowa State coaches came away impressed.

“We went to Iowa State and that was a really good camp,” Mr. Gartner said. “All they said was ‘we will be calling’. We spoke to the offensive line coach when we were done and he was really impressed.

“He told us that he liked Dillon’s size and that he didn’t want him getting any heavier. He said 295 your senior year would be plenty. He’s in the 290 area right now.”

There was also a camp at Oklahoma State that Gartner was able to hit. Again, the thought was that Gartner performed very well and impressed the coaches at Stillwater. Dillon received a lot of individual attention at the camp by the coaching staff.

“We went to Oklahoma State too since we spoke last time. The coaches were very interested in Dillon it seemed like. The coaches were walking around and Dillon was one of the only 2013 recruits they spoke with.

“Oklahoma State was very impressed with him after camp. They told us that they would be calling too. I think that Oklahoma State could offer. It might not be something we would get right away, but eventually they could.”

The Gartner’s have been through a lot this summer, interfaced with a lot of people and they have come away with a strong feeling about one approach: honesty. The coaches that have been honest with the Gartner’s have really stood out.

“We have seen a lot and we like the honest approach from the coaches. The coaches that have told us to expect to redshirt coming in and hit the field as a redshirt freshman or sophomore have really stood out to us.

“You know there are so many other guys on each team in the same position trying to do the same thing. It’s about being realistic in the approach to how quickly you might see the field. I like to hear that. It’s honesty.”
