Gartner checks out Lincoln

In the 2011 recruiting class, the Nebraska Cornhusker staff were able to pick up two in-state prospects along the offensive line in Ryne Reeves and Zach Sterup. While there hasn’t been any in-state offers out to 2011-12 prospects yet, there seems to be a solid crop coming up. One of those players happens to be Dillon Gartner from Gothenburg (Nebr.) who was in Lincoln this past weekend.

Dillon Gartner, an offensive lineman/defensive lineman from Gothenburg (Nebr.) made some late plans last week to head down to Lincoln. This was his first chance this season to see a Nebraska game in person.

“I visited Lincoln this weekend,” Gartner said. “I got a letter in the mail from Nebraska last Tuesday inviting me to come to Fresno State game. It was lunch, pre-game and the game.”

There was only one official visitor this past weekend, but there was a good group of visitors as a whole. Gartner said that he got to spend some time talking to some of the other recruits.

“I was with Hunter Greer, Jordan Diggs, Michael Rose, Tony Lashley and some other recruits. We got to hang out a little bit and talked some. They were cool.”

While Gartner has seen mostly everything of what Nebraska has to offer he said that the tour that was given was excellent. He said that as a lineman he also appreciated the quality of food that the Nebraska training table has to offer.

“The tour guides were awesome, they showed us everything. They were able to tell us everything about Nebraska football, about Bo Pelini and all of the facilities.

“We made our way over to the weight room and saw the dedicated section by Ndamukong Suh. We ate at the training table and that was fantastic food.”

Recruits aren’t allowed to come out with the team for the tunnel walk so they enter the field beforehand. Seeing the tunnel walk from the field though is a different perspective than he’s seen it from before. He had the same reaction though.

“We had to watch the tunnel walk from down on the field and it was a different perspective than what I have typically seen it. It always gives me goose bumps.”

Nebraska was tested early by Fresno State, but in the end they were able to put them away. Gartner was impressed by the play of a true freshman on offense and one of the pre-season All-Americans on defense.

“I thought that they played well. Tyler Moore is really impressive to come in as a true freshman and play like that. The defense did well. I thought that Lavonte David played the best game out of everyone I watched.”

Gartner said that he has been invited back for the game this coming weekend and while he was happy to see Lincoln he missed an amazing game that he was also invited to come and see.

“They invited me back for the Washington game so we are going to check that out. I got invited to the Michigan game last weekend against Notre Dame, but we couldn’t make that.”

The interest from Michigan is new and they have invited Gartner to come up and see a game at a later date. Besides Michigan he is still receiving quite a bit of interest from some schools that he camped at this summer.

“I have been getting a lot of new interest from Michigan and letters from Iowa, Iowa State and Nebraska. I am really waiting to send out game film to get some more interest going.”

Gartner mentioned that this week is set for Nebraska. He and a 2012 recruit plan on hanging out together while they are in Lincoln this weekend. “I am signed up to go this weekend for sure. I will be there with Mike Shoff. I know that he and I will be there this weekend.”
