Nebraska wide receiver Tim Marlowe is making the most of his opportunities. The junior just hopes that he can find the end zone again this week.

Ann Arbor, MI - Growing in Ohio, it’s probably safe to bet that Tim Marlowe dreamed of scoring a touchdown in the Big House. The junior will get the chance, as Nebraska will take on the Michigan Wolverines tomorrow at 11 A.M. CT on ESPN.

Marlowe has emerged the last few weeks, finding a regular home in the starting lineup in place of talented freshman Jamal Turner.

“In the spring he was hurt, so I really never got a good evaluation of what he could do,” said Nebraska wide receivers coach Rich Fisher. “Tim had a really good start to the beginning of fall camp, but Jamal took a lot of the reps in the spring, so he was warranting the reps with the ones at the beginning of the year.”

But Marlowe didn’t pout and took the limited reps he got as an opportunity– he was constantly hearing from the coaching staff that starting spots were not locked in from week-to-week.

“He never really gave it up,” said Fisher. “We got into the game planning situations from week to week and all of a sudden, Jamal wasn’t warranting the reps he was getting. Timmy got an opportunity when we made the change and has taken off.

“I think you see a kid with a lot of confidence. I don’t think he lacked believing in himself, but once you get in game situations, the ball is thrown to you, and you start having some production, you start to believe in yourself. It’s what you are seeing with him.”

Fisher hasn’t been afraid to shake things up at the wide receiver spot this season – never playing favorites in the process.

Because of this, Turner’s production has been on hold. Once the leader in receptions on the team, he has been held without a catch the last three games.

“If your not practicing good, you’re going to be benched,” said Jamal Turner last week. “I have to work a little harder.”

While Husker fans sit and wait, hoping that Turner finds his way back on the field, they show their impatience. It’s easy to see the Arlington, Texas product has a bright future ahead of him, but practice is important – especially considering the wide receiver position is a new concept to him.

“He has to keep growing,” said Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini. “You have to remember, he was a high school quarterback last year. He has a lot to learn.”
