The second-seeded Nebraska volleyball opened the NCAA Tournament with a dominating sweep against overmatched Jackson State on Thursday night in front of 4,192 fans at the NU Coliseum. In winning their NCAA opener for the 28th consecutive season, the Huskers had a run of at least seven straight points in every set and trailed for a total of seven rallies in the 25-10, 25-16, 25-13 win.

On Thursday night the Big Ten Champion Nebraska Cornhuskers swept the SWAC Conference Champion Jackson State Tigers in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Some like to say that there is no easy win when it comes to sports but this was as easy as it could get for the Huskers as they would take the match, 3-0. (25-10, 25-16, 25-13).

HITTING PERCENTAGE: The hitting percentage between the Tigers and the Huskers was lopsided tonight, favoring the Huskers. In the first set the Tigers tallied a -.107 hitting percentage. It wouldn't get much better in the second set as the hitting percentage was raised to just .133. As for the Huskers they registered a .500 hitting percentage and a .343 in the second set. The third set was complete domination for Nebraska as they posted a .520 hitting percentage while the Tigers just a .031.

PLAYING LOOSE: Many times athletes will play very stressed and not treat the game like what it is, a game. However, for the first time in awhile I saw the Huskers playing loose and just having a great time. Laughing and joking around seemed to occur throughout the match will helped them played with a more relaxed feeling. It also seemed as John Cook may have been resting players for the next match as Libero Lara Dykstra was replaced by Paige Hubl after the first set.

SENIOR REDEMPTION: When Brooke Delano, Bridgette Root and Jordan Wilberger were freshman, they lost the National Championship to the four-time reigning champion Penn State Nittany Lions. This is now the last chance for those three to bring the title back to Lincoln. The Huskers last won the National Title in 2006.

With the win against Jackson State, John Cook's squad will take on Kansas State, former Big 12 rival, on Friday night for the right to advance to Hawaii.
