The University of Nebraska has named Tim Miles the new Husker men's basketball coach. Miles brings 17 years of head coaching experience and a proven track record of building successful basketball programs to Lincoln.

Miles joins Nebraska after five seasons as the head coach at Colorado State University. In 2011-12, Miles led the Rams to 20 victories and their first NCAA Tournament berth in nine seasons.

"Tim Miles is an ideal fit to lead our men's basketball program at Nebraska," Osborne said. "He has built successful programs at four schools at different levels of college basketball. Tim is from this part of the country, has recruited the Midwest and will relate well to our players, prospective recruits and our fans."

Miles has turned around the Colorado State program during his tenure in Fort Collins. The Rams increased their win total in each of Miles' five seasons on the sideline, capped by a 20-12 record this past season, including an 8-6 mark in the Mountain West Conference, marking the second straight season the Rams finished fourth in the league. The Mountain West Conference ranked as the nation's fifth-toughest conference according to the RPI, and the Rams faced a schedule that was the nation's fourth-most difficult according to the NCAA.

The 20 victories marked the first 20-win campaign for CSU since the 1997-98 season. CSU defeated three ranked teams for the first time in school history, and used a late-season surge with wins in four of its final five regular-season games to earn a No. 11 seed in the NCAA West Regional. Miles was named District VIII Coach of the Year by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association for his efforts.

The 2011-12 Rams were indicative of the style of play Miles' teams have shown during his coaching career. Colorado State averaged 70.1 points per game, and led the Mountain West Conference in field-goal percentage, 3-point field goal percentage and free throw percentage.

The NCAA Tournament berth marked the third consecutive year Miles had guided the Rams to postseason play. His 2010 team posted a 16-16 record and earned a spot in the College Basketball Invitational, earning Miles Mountain West Coach-of-the-Year honors from CollegeInsider.com. His 2011 team finished at 19-13 and 9-7 in the Mountain West and was selected to the National Invitation Tournament. Overall, Miles' CSU teams produced a 71-88 record, including a 55-41 record over the past three seasons.

While putting successful teams on the court at Colorado State, Miles also produced a winning culture in the classroom and the community.

At Colorado State, Miles built on his success during head coaching stops at three other institutions. Overall, Miles has a 283-220 record during his 17 seasons as a head coach, including three conference championships and six postseason tournament appearances.

Miles spent six seasons at North Dakota State from 2001 to 2007, helping the Bison make the transition to Division I. He compiled a 99-71 record at the school, while each of his final five NDSU teams won at least 16 games, including 20-win seasons in 2003 and 2007.

He also previously served as the head coach at Southwest Minnesota State University from 1998 to 2001 and got his coaching start in two seasons at Mayville State (N.D.) University in 1996 and 1997. Miles is a native of Doland, S.D., and earned his bachelor's degree in elementary education and health/physical education from the University of Mary in 1989. He earned a master's degree from Northern State in 1990.

Miles and his wife, Kari, have a daughter, Ava, and a son, Gabriel.
