After having "hardware" removed from his leg, Nebraska senior linebacker Sean Fisher is starting to feel like his old self.

Lincoln, NE - After recording 35 tackles and starting in six contests his redshirt freshman year, the future looked very bright for Nebraska linebacker Sean Fisher. The Omaha native came into the 2010 season primed for a breakout year, but a broken leg in fall camp severely hindered his plans and he missed the entire season.

The 2011 season wasn't much better. Fisher's injury from the year prior slowed his game. He wasn't as mobile and couldn't always make the necessary cuts to play the position at a level he once did. It had to be frustrating for the former All-Big 12 freshman performer.

It's now the spring of 2012 and the senior is starting to look like his old self, according to multiple reports from players and coaches. A healthy mobile Sean Fisher could do wonders for a linebacker position that lacked depth in the Big Ten last season.

"It's been important to me to get back and get back to playing like what I felt like before I was hurt, and I didn't feel like I did that last year," Fisher told reporters on Wednesday. "Whether it be a mental thing, or just getting back physically, so I think there's definitely things to work on from a physicality standpoint and just getting strength back and things like that. They are going in the right direction right now."

In the offseason, doctors removed screws and a plate that had been put in to help the healing process. Since the removal, Fisher says the day-to-day pain has gone away and more importantly he feels flexibility is coming back.

“It's definitely helped loosen it up,” said Fisher. “It feels a lot more like it did before I got hurt.”

With his 2010 season completely wasted, Fisher might be granted an opportunity by the NCAA for a sixth-year due to injury. It's still not clear if it will happen and won't likely be discussed until after the 2012 season. So at this point, the former Millard North standout is treating 2012 like it is his last.

"Whether that happens or not, I'm not really in a position I don't think think yet to make that call,” said Fisher. “I think the best thing is to treat it like it's a last year because I don't know if it's a last year or not."
