In just a matter of days, 2012 four-star wide receiver Jordan Westerkamp hits campus. Come inside as the Illinois product talks about his expectations for year one.

One of the biggest names in Nebraska’s 2012 signing class is Jordan Westerkamp. Scout.com recruiting analysts describe him as an extremely athletic receiver with good hands, and good instincts. Husker fans everywhere are expecting big things from Westerkamp, but that doesn’t bother him at all.

“I don’t really feel any extra pressure,” stated Westerkamp. “I am very honored that they feel that way.”

Even without playing a single down with the Cornhuskers Westerkamp already feels like he belongs in Lincoln.

“I just knew when I visited Nebraska for the spring game my junior year this was the place for me,” said the soon to be freshman. “The fans are the best in the country, and the tradition of Nebraska football is second to none.

“I know I took a late visit to Notre Dame, but that just solidified the fact that I really loved Nebraska,” reassured Westerkamp. “I haven’t played one down yet, but I feel like I already bleed Husker red.”

How much can excited Husker fans expect to see him though? Expectations for skilled players can often run high, but many times things don't pan out.

“The coaches have told me they did not recruit me to redshirt me,” stated the 2012 signee. “They feel I can come in and compete right away.”

Westerkamp, however, is aware that this would mean having to take playing time away from some of the older receivers on the team, people he has nothing but respect for, and he will work hard to prove he belongs.

“I have talked to a lot of the guy, especially Kenny Bell, Jamal Turner, and Quincy Enunwa,” said Westerkamp. “They are a great group of guys. This is one of the most talented group of receivers, I feel, in the country, and I just want to contribute any way I can.

“I know I have to work as hard as I can everyday and I am excited to get started with my teammates,” stated Westerkamp. “I will give the fans of Nebraska everything I have.”

In the offseason Westerkamp has been working out, already gained 15 pounds of muscle, catching balls, and studying a bunch of information the coaching staff has given him. Westerkamp hopes to come into Nebraska with a feel for the offense, by studying routes, formations and plays, so he can just jump right into the swing of things.
