Nebraska sophomore Braylon Heard will work multiple positions this fall.

Earlier this week, a source told Big Red Report Nebraska sophomore Braylon Heard would be moving back to running back, after practicing as a defensive back this spring.

While BRR was not able to confirm the news, the Lincoln Journal Star on Friday night learned Heard would be working at both positions this fall.

"We're going to play him at running back and continue to work him some at nickel and we're going to let it play out,” Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini told the paper. “So he's going to be playing a little bit of both. That's basically what we're doing."

The 5-foot-11, 180 pound Ohio native had 25 carries for 114 yards and one touchdown last season as a true freshman, but was fourth on the team in carries. With the departure of fellow freshman Aaron Green, a move back for Heard could indicate a need for depth at the running back position.

"We didn't move (Heard) in the first place because he wasn't a good running back. We kind of had a logjam there,” Pelini also told the Lincoln Journal Star. “And now with Aaron leaving, it kind of opens up a door.”

Heard, as a junior at Cardinal Mooney high school, was actually a Division IV All-Ohio selection at corner. When he initially switched to the secondary, Pelini indicated his staff would have recruited Heard also as a corner if he had not been such a talented running back.

"We're going to see how it goes for a while, and then make a decision," Pelini said. "Obviously sit down with him and see how it goes.”

While the sophomore showed rust in the secondary through 14 practices in the spring, the move was according to all reports heading in the right direction.

“It wasn't really easy, because I haven't played corner in so long, I didn't know if I would be good at it in college,” said Heard in the spring. “My love is running back and I was recruited at running back, but I feel comfortable.”
