Lincoln, NE - In 2011 Nebraska kicker/punter Brett Maher replaced the NCAA’s most accurate kicker of all-time in Alex Henery – a tough task for any player. Maher shined, earning first-team All-Big Ten honors at both positions.
The senior thinks he can be better in 2012.
“I missed four field goals and definitely miss hit some punts,” said Maher when reflecting on 2011. “I’m trying to fine tune some things. There is always room for improvement.
“I have watched every kick from last year, trying to find tendencies, and looking for good and bad things about them. Hopefully they will serve as a learning tool for me.”
Maher also hung out with former Huskers and NFL talents Kyle Laron, Kris Brown, and Henery in the offseason to try to pick up little things.
“I think my leg has gotten a little stronger,” said Maher, who 3-of-6 from 50+ yards last year. “Hopefully that translates into practices and games.”
Maher averaged 44.5 yards per punt in 2011.
