Lincoln, NE - Earlier in the week, Big Red Report published an article examining Ciante Evan's move to nickel from the junior's perspective. It can be seen here: http://nebraska.scout.com/2/1211646.html
On Wednesday, Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini was asked about Evan's progression at the position.
"He had a really good spring and followed that up with a really good fall camp. He has a really good understanding of what we're doing and how we want to go about it," said Pelini. "He's a really good player at that nickel spot. He's light years ahead of where he was last year, so that's good for us."
Pelini was then asked to compare Evans to past players who played more than just the nickel position in the defensive system.
"He's not as big as (DeJon) Gomes. He's more like (Eric) Hagg at that spot we have him playing in...Hagg was a tough act to follow. He played there a number of years for us," said Pelini. "We require a lot out of that spot. I think Ciante has grown into it and has a good understanding of how to play there and what to do. There's a lot that goes on at that spot."
