Stat check: The good and the not so good

It's time for a Nebraska stat check after week one. Where do the Huskers rank among the nation's best?

The Good:

* Nebraska is the No. 1 team in the nation, tied with Purdue, on third down efficiency on offense. On Saturday, the Huskers converted on 12-of-15 third downs, for 80 percent.

* Junior quarterback Taylor Martinez had a 212.46 passer rating on Saturday, putting him No. 5 in the nation in the category for quarterback with at least 15 attempts.

* Martinez's 354 yards currently is good for No. 8 in the nation.

* Martinez was responsible for 30 points in the Huskers 49-20 win, putting him in a tie for No. 1 in the nation with West Virginia's Geno Smith.

* Will Compton's 12 tackles puts him in a tie for No. 25 in the nation in the category.

* Nebraska currently ranks No. 25 in the nation in total defense.

* Nebraska currently is in a tie for No.1 in the nation in turnovers allowed.

* Nebraska is currently No. 4 in the nation in total first downs with 33 against Southern Miss.

* Nebraska is currently No. 7 in the country in passing yards allowed after giving up 75 yards to the Golden Eagles.

* Nebraska currently ranks No. 4 in the country in total penalties.

The Not So Good:

* Nebraska is currently second to last in the country in kickoff return yardage defense.

* Nebraska currently ranks No. 101 in net punting after a 21 yard punt against Southern Miss.
