2014 Midlands Five-Stars

Tony Brown

Three of the first 12 Scout.com Class of 2014 5-stars are from the Midlands...

Tony Brown | 6-1/185 | DB | Beaumont (Texas) Ozen
Ranking: No. 1 S | No. 3 overall
Brown is rated as a safety, but is also being looked at by many schools to play cornerback and could very well be the top player in the country at that position as well. He is in the mold of an Eric Berry, who can just about do everything in the defensive backfield. He has the size and physique of an elite college player and has already developed a strong work ethic. Additionally, he is a bonafide speedster posting 4.34 forty-yard dash times.

Hoza Scott | 6-3/225 | OLB | La Porte (Texas)
Ranking: No. 1 OLB | No. 5 overall
Looks like he was born to play the game. Great at firing off the edge and putting pressure on opposing offenses. He has a nice frame and moves extremely well. He shows great anticipation and has a knack for making some dramatic plays. He can play sideline-to-sideline against the ground game, but is also dangerous in pass defense. He jumps to bat balls down and grabs interceptions. He is freakishly strong and athletic.

Braden Smith| 6-6/278 | OT | Olathe (Kan.) South
Ranking: No. 2 OT | No. 11 overall
Smith is one of the more physically imposing players on the high school scene and plays with power, aggression and authority. He can move and stay on his feet, a mark of a solid lineman. He can lock on and stay on a block. He is definitely athletic enough to get to the second level and cut off backers. He should also definitely be considered as a candidate to play defense. He plays spirited on that side of the ball in the mold of a Justin Smith (Missouri) or Johnny Simon (Ohio State).
