"The junior day went well," Westphal said. "I came down to Champaign with my dad and Aaron Bailey and his dad."
And as for some of the highlights of the day for Westphal, they were topped by spending time building relationships.
"Just speaking to Coach Clinkscale and Beckman for a while," Westphal said. "And then with one of the strength coaches for a little bit."
Of course checking out the basketball game during where Illinois took on highly ranked Michigan was pretty impressive too.
"The crowd going crazy when Illinois would make a shot or when Michigan would miss," Westphal recalled.
Westphal also learned about the priorities of the Illini class of 2014.
"Coach Beckman was just telling me that his goal is to keep the best players from Chicago/Illinois in Illinois and that he wants me to be apart of a possible dynasty," Westphal said.
And getting to know others around the Illinois program a bit more was worth the trip to Champaign for Westphal. "And Coach Clinkscale was just saying that I'm at the top of their recruiting board and that he really wants to coach me."
"I would say my favorite parts of the day were hanging out with the coaches and having the chance to meet new recruits," Westphal said.
Westphal plans to take several more visits during the spring but has not set dates or destinations quite yet.
