Huskers targeting Gage

Donald Gage

Houston wide receiver commit Donald Gage of Zachary (LA) has a new offer to consider from the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Get his reaction inside...

Nebraska defensive backs coach Terry Joseph, a Louisiana native, offered home-state prospect Donald Gage this morning.

"I talked to Coach Joseph and Coach Pelini," Gage said. "Coach Pelini said to make sure I call him again soon.

"Coach Joseph talked about how he'd watched my (junior) film a year ago from Redemptorist. Then he saw my senior highlights and loved it. He showed it to Coach Pelini, who loved it too."

Gage, who transferred from Redemptorist to Zachary as a senior, has seen his recruitment spike with new offers from the likes of Kentucky, Texas Tech, Southern Miss, Illinois, Louisiana Tech and the Cajuns in Lafayette.

He canceled visits to four of those programs after taking an official to Houston earlier this month.

Is there a possibility Gage will visit Nebraska?

"My dad says to keep my word (with commitment) but Nebraska is his favorite college team," Gage said. "He knows I've talked to them but doesn't know about the offer.

"I'm going to tell him at dinner tonight."

Gage's Houston visit went extremely well.

"I've built a relationship with the coaching staff," he said. "Coach Tony Levine and Coach (Brandon) Middleton are cool dudes. They came by last week, and we ate together and talked a little.

"Coach Middleton is coming again to drop off scholarship papers. I felt satisfied with Houston after visiting. Houston's great with that fast-paced offense." Recommended Stories
