Newell reels in No. 25

OU defensive lineman target Peyton Newell

NORMAN, Okla. — Hiawatha (Kan.) HS defensive end Peyton Newell just hauled in yet another offer, and it's a big one.

The Oklahoma Sooners are the latest to get in the fray on the prized 2014 prospect, as defensive ends coach Bobby Jack Wright made the call to present it to him.

"Definitely really excited to get the offer!" Newell exclaimed via text. "They don't just offer any player either so that means a lot to me. Hopefully will get chance to talk with the coaching staff sometime this spring!"

Newell has been invited to OU's second Junior Day March 9, but is still unsure on whether or not he'll attend.

The offer is his 25th and eighth out of 10 Big 12 schools, only excluding Texas and Texas Tech.

In all, Newell now possesses 23 BCS offers.

As for the Sooners, this is their fourth defensive end offer to go along with Da'Shawn Hand, Deondre Clark and Qualen Cunningham.

But at his 6-foot-3, 280-pound frame, Newell could grow into an interior defensive lineman, and OU has offered three others of those to this point, including Khairi Clark, Tashon Smallwood and Zaycoven Henderson.

That means there are currently seven defensive line offers for the 2014 class, all seven uncommitted.
