2013 Signee Spotlight: Chongo Kondolo
OL.) Chongo Kondolo 6-foot-4, 290-pounds / Fresno City College (JUCO) Senior Honors: First-Team California Community College Coaches Association All-American The Lowdown: Nebraska wanted Fresno junior college offensive lineman Chongo Kondolo so bad, multiple times they sent out multiple coaches to California to recruit the former Dallas-Fort Worth product. Eventually Nebraska convinced Kondolo to visit in late January, meaning their chances to land his commitment went drastically up. "Nebraska was really nice," the junior college transfer said shortly after his visit. "I have been to very nice places and the way that stadium looks from the outside, it shows they put a lot of money into football and have a lot of pride. You can tell that they really care about their program." After an official visit to Utah State and a few days of thinking, Kondolo decided Lincoln was where he wanted to be. He committed to the Huskers on February 1st, immediately bolstering Nebraska's offensive line. "I believe my strength is tackle, but I can play guard. I played a little bit of guard my freshman year at Fresno," Kondolo told FOX Sports NEXT. "I can move anywhere on the line. My strength is tackle, but I can adjust to anything." "I believe I'm balanced. I'm D-1 ready. I describe myself as D-1 physical. I'm more physical than the person in front of me. I make him do what I want him to do. That's all I try to do every time. I play to the whistle. "I try and make defensive players angry," the 2013 prospect told TotalBlueSpots.com. "I just play hard and they really don't like me. It's really just a mindset and you have to practice that way. When you practice hard and nasty like that, you just bring that mindset to the game." Why Nebraska: "The people at Nebraska are great. Stuff like the depth chart weren't really important to me. It was all about the people. My visit I could tell that I was really going to like the place. The coaches really feel that I can be a guy who could come in and make an instant impact. They were excited and definitely fired up when I committed." Who Else: BYU, Illinois, Tennessee and Utah State, Florida State and Texas Tech Who Recruited Him: John Garrison and Rich Fisher FOX Sports NEXT Rating: Three-star prospect BRR Projection: While Kondolo wasn't technically the last commitment for Nebraska, he was in a way the icing on the recruiting class cake. Nebraska was in need of some more help on the offensive line and getting a player like Kondolo was huge. He can come in and be a factor immediately by adding immediate depth and competition at either guard spot and potentially out at tackle where he played in junior college. Kondolo has great feet, is a solid athlete and can run and pass block. Look for Kondolo's name to be thrown around a lot this fall as a guy that can start or rotate at multiple positions.
