Former Michigan State tight end Dion Sims selected by Miami in the fourth round of NFL Draft.

The call came in the fourth round (No. 106 overall) for former Michigan State tight end Dion Sims as the Miami Dolphins selected the Detroit, Mich., native who enjoyed a solid career with 59 receptions for 707 yards and eight TDs in 39 career games for the Green & White.

“Dion Sims is a big target with great hands,” said Spartans head coach Mark Dantonio. “With his combination of size and power, Dion gains a lot of yards after the catch because he’s so difficult to tackle. He can serve as both a stationary and motion tight end. Dion also can be flexed out where he adds yet another dimension to the offense. In addition, he has worked hard to improve as a run blocker.”

Sims was off to a strong start last season before injuring his ankle early in the first quarter against Indiana. The injury forced him to miss the Spartans battle against Iowa and the majority of the Michigan game.
