LINCOLN, Neb. - On Wednesday night, Big Red Report will get a chance to look at some of the best talent the state of Nebraska has to offer at the “Nebraska Top 50 Football Combine,” presented by DomiNation Sports Training.
The event, which will be modeled after an NFL combine, will feature not only one Nebraska commitment, but multiple other Husker prospects from the state:
ATH.) Luke Gifford - The Nebraska commitment is currently No. 3 in the Big Red Report state rankings, moving up to No. 58 nationally at the safety spot by FOX Sports NEXT. Besides roaming the secondary this season, the Lincoln Southeast product is scheduled to play quarterback for the Knights.
DL.) Harrison Phillips - The state's No. 2 player according to Big Red Report, Phillips has seen his offer list grow to 11 after Duke offered on Monday. He might play defensive end at Millard West, but if he gets an offer from Nebraska, it will likely be for the defensive tackle position.
DE.) Mick Stoltenberg - With an offer from Tulsa in hand, the Gretna defensive end is one of the most talked about Nebraska preps as of late. He definitely passes the eye test with his frame. Just last week, Nebraska's Barney Cotton made initial contact with the junior.
RB.) Austin Rose - The state's No. 1 running back in the 2014 class according to Big Red Report, Rose has had a busy spring, including a trip to Wisconsin, where he put himself on the Badgers' radar. At 6-foot, 220-pounds, the North Star product is also seeing interest from schools like Michigan, Ohio, and Stanford. An extremely hard runner, rushing for 1,400 yards last season, the question is where would Rose fit in the Huskers' system – fullback or running back?
QB.) Easton Stick - The state's No. 1 quarterback according to Big Red Report, Stick threw for over 2,000 yards and rushed for another 500 yards in 2012. A dual-threat quarterback, his forty time will likely be one of the biggest story-lines coming out of the combine on Wednesday night. If the Creighton Prep standout has a great one, it might help his stock.
WR.) R.J. Urzendowski - A teammate of Stick's, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound prospect is currently the No. 6 prospect in the state of Nebraska according to Big Red Report – the highest rated wide receiver. After hiring a personal trainer this spring to work on all areas of his game, his combine numbers will definitely be noted Wednesday night.
Other notables likely to attend: DB - Trey Carr (Omaha Burke), Matt Dietz (North Star), OL – Mark Hruska (Lincoln Southwest), LB – Blake Emsick (Omaha Burke).
Expect a full report and player interviews from the event starting Thursday morning.
