In our next issue of Big Red Report magazine, we ask the Big Ten Network's Tom Dienhart, the Lincoln Journal Star's Brian Christopherson, and BRR's Josh Harvey to answer a handful of topics previewing the Nebraska Cornhuskers offseason and 2013 season.
So how about a little preview? Here is one question you should expect in the next magazine.
A team in the Big Ten that could be a sleeper or a surprise?
Dienhart: “Indiana. I’m not saying they are going to win the Leaders Division, but they were 4-8 last year and should have beaten Michigan State. They had Navy beat. They were close and did this with backup quarterbacks. The offense is completely back. The defense will be average to bad, but I think they have a shot to get to 6-6 – which is big news when you haven’t been to a bowl game since 2007.”
Christopherson: “I think there will be more talk about Michigan and less than Michigan State, but MSU might be the school to watch. Yes, they lost key players from their roster and their offense has some things to work on, but they are a team that I think could be there at the end in the Legends Division race.”
Harvey: “I will say Iowa, just because I think they are a bowl team this year, with many people predicting a similar 4-8 type season they had last year. Call it the former Iowa ties in me, but it just seems like Kirk Ferentz has a knack for doing something when many aren't expecting much. Do I think they are a BCS team this year – no! But I do think they can get to six or seven wins. They will have to beat Iowa State in Ames in a rivalary game and beat Minnesota on the road, but if they do that, they just need to find one more win against Purdue, Northwestern (home game), and Michigan State. It's doable. I really like their likely new quarterback Jake Ruddock.
