Scout's National Recruiting Analysts key on which top storyline from their region they're focusing on at The Opening this week in Beaverton...
Scout.com's complete coverage of The Opening 2013 presented by NIKE
The Scout.com national recruiting analysts will be in Beaverton, Oregon, all week for
at the Nike Headquarters. Leading up to The Opening, a gathering of 150 of the top prospects from all across the country, they are focusing on some of the key things to watch in the summer's biggest event.
What is the Top Storyline from your region that you're looking forward to watching unfold in Beaverton?
Scott Kennedy (Director of Scouting):
The deepest position in the Class of 2014 is running back. Unfortunately, The Opening isn't an ideal setting for running backs (or linebacker) to make an impact. Still as good as these guys are with pads on, I'll be interested to see the top backs being used as receivers.
is the No. 1 prospect in the nation, and a 6'3/10.6 100 meters guy can be a terrific wide receiver, but can he catch? He hasn't really had to in high school when he averages about 10 yards per carry.
Brian Dohn (East):
Can four-star cornerback
of Friendship Collegiate Academy (Washington, D.C.) prove he is worth of a fifth star? He is the No. 5cornerback in the nation and he brings size (6-2, 200 pounds) with incredible athleticism. A dominating performance could elevate his status.
Jamie Newberg (South):
The biggest storyline from the south are the running backs. It’s a ridiculous group of players that includes
and others. To many to mention. Will Fournette show why he’s the top back and prospect in the country? Will one of the Central studs steal the show? Or will it be Racean or someone else? What a great group of players from top to bottom at this position from the south.
Chad Simmons (South):
be the top wide receiver in the country? There has been some chatter among the Scout team about him in that spot. Will he showcase that type of talent and potential in Oregon? He plays on nationally ranked high school team in Louisiana that is all about running the ball, so if Dupre is going to make his case for the top spot in the country as a wideout, it will likely be this event he has to do it at.
Greg Powers (Midlands):
It is the Year of the DB in the Midlands and most of the best will all be participating in The Opening.
(S) are rated as the top two and are both national Top 12 players regardless of position and both showed they deserve their ranking at the NFTC in Dallas. The players rated right behind them at their respective positions will be there to push and make a move.
Allen Trieu (Midwest):
I'm interested to see
. There is some debate in Illinois as to who is better and some debate nationally as to whether or not those two guys from Illinois truly belong with the elite in the country and I'm excited to see what they can show this week, as I think both are major talents.
Greg Biggins (West):
What corner will emerge as the No. 2 guy in the region. No matter what happens in Portland,
has the top spot locked up. After that, it's open and all the top corners out west-
will be in attendance. There is very little separating anyone in this group and we could see the current corner rankings turned upside down following the event.
Brandon Huffman (West):
Who will be the West's top linebacker in 2014 could be finally settled in Beaverton, with the top two outside backers and the top middle backer all in The Opening.
are 1-2 at outside linebacker while
is the top middle backer while
is making a case, especially after he won the MVP at the Oakland NFTC over Calhoun and Cobb. While 7on isn't always the greatest place for a linebacker, who looks the best and most fluid in the drills could make a case for themselves.
