Lincoln, Neb. - Junior college point guard transfer Deverell Biggs, an expected starter for Nebraska this season, will be suspended for the team's first two regular season games and the Huskers exhibition game for a violation of team rules during the 2012-13 season.
“We are obviously disappointed in Deverell’s actions,” Nebraska head coach Tim Miles said in a statement. “It’s inexcusable. I know he has learned from it, and he will proceed accordingly to improve all areas of his life.”
In late December, Biggs was cited on suspicion of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident according to the Associated Press.. At the time, he was only 20-years old and not of the legal age to drink alcohol.
“I want to apologize to my teammates, coaches and fans for my actions,” Biggs said. “I understand the seriousness and the consequences of my actions, have learned from the situation and worked hard to move forward. I look forward to representing Nebraska in a positive manner on and off the court.”
The first signee in the Tim Miles era, Biggs averaged 14.61 points per game that year, with just over 3.1 assists a contest at Seward Community College in 2011-12. Seward went 31-7 in 2011-12.
