Ameer Abdullah might be the starter, but his mindset hasn't changed.

LINCOLN, Neb. - Nebraska junior running back Ameer Abdullah's time is now. For the first time in his career, he's the clear-cut starter, but don't expect anything different from the Alabama native.

"It makes me feel good that people are recognizing me. It doesn’t really change what I do,” said Abdullah. “I’m still going to prepare to make sure I put my team in the best position to win on Saturday.

"I’ve always played with a chip on my shoulder. I’ve always been under the radar and I kind of prefer that. When you’re in the spotlight sometimes you aren’t focused. I like flying under the radar because then you are focused on what you need to do and accomplish."

Abdullah started seven games last season when senior Rex Burkhead went down with a knee injury, but was operating on a week-to-week basis as the starter. An all-conference running back a year ago, Abdullah is excited for the stability of knowing he's the guy each and every week.

"I feel like it is much easier to process things,” said Abulldah. “A lot of times last year I was over-thinking things because I was young. I have a season under my belt now and I’m much more confident in what I can do, and I’m just excited to show everyone what we’ve been working on."

Abdullah rushed for 1,137 yards and eight touchdowns as a sophomore and helped Nebraska lead the Big Ten and rank eighth nationally in rushing offense.

His play last year earned him a spot on the Walter Camp Watch List for 2013.
