The reasons behind the commitment

Nebraska nabbed commitment No. 11 today. The big piece to Nebraska's class could possibly be the last offensive lineman that the Huskers take to go along with present commitments Christian Gaylord and Michael Decker.

The Huskers got a key piece to the class of 2015 when Mirko Jurkovic picked Nebraska over Ohio State and Florida. The 6-foot-5 and 260-pound Jurkovic called Nebraska on Monday and spoke with his future position coach. Obviously the staff from Nebraska was very elated to get his verbal commitment.

"I called Coach John Garrison and told him that I was committing," Jurkovic said. "He was very excited and very happy to get the news. He told me that he couldn't wait to start working with me.

Congrats to @IMGAFootball @mirko_jurko64 on committing to play for Nebraska @Huskers football! #BecomeMore

"He also said that he can't wait to get me up there for an official visit this fall. I haven't set one up yet, but I have been talking with Christian Gaylord about it. He and some of the other commits are trying to get up there for the Miami game."

It’s clear talking to Jurkovic that he has a pretty tight bond with Coach Garrison – as well as Coach Barney Cotton. He recognizes the love that both of the coaches have for Nebraska. He believes that Coach Garrison can push to get every bit of talent he has out of him.

"I am looking forward to working with Coach Garrison. He's a younger coach that played at Nebraska, loves Nebraska and knows all about it. He's been very genuine and straight up about how it's going to be. He said that he's going to push me and that's what I need. Coach Cotton has been at Nebraska a long time and played there too."

The decision on Monday came down first to proximity of home back in Indiana. Next, it came down to where Jurkovic says that he ultimately felt the most comfortable while he was there on his trip.

”The biggest thing for me and my decision was getting back close to home. Both Ohio State and Nebraska did that for me. Really it was the feeling and the atmosphere at Nebraska. I just liked it more there.”

Besides talking with fellow commits Jurkovic has been talking with a current player in Lincoln too. He met another offensive tackle coming from a similar part of the world and who has some other similarities as well.

”I have been talking with Matt Finnin a little bit from the team. We were introduced on my visit to Nebraska last month. We have been staying in touch a little bit since then.” Recommended Stories
