Utah speedster, Marquis Wilson, just returned from his official at Nebraska. He shared his thoughts…
Utah WR to officially visit Nebraska this weekend
Marquis Wilson fits the bill of the athletic receiver that can make plays after the catch. Although Wilson doesn't get a lot of opportunities with his current high school team in Draper (Utah) Juan Diego High School when he does get those chances he takes advantage. "We've already played two games," Wilson said. "We won in overtime our first game. I caught the touchdown pass to win in overtime. It was 3rd and 25 and we were on the 45 yard line and I caught it with two feet in bounds." "I had like three receptions for 85 yards and a touchdown. I also had an interception in the first game. This past week I had three receptions for 118 yards, one touchdown reception that went for 80 yards and an interception that I returned 67 yards for a touchdown." Wilson has that size and athleticism that is catching the eyes of college coaches. He is a 6-foot-0 and 170 pound receiver who has a 4.5/40 and a 34" vertical jump He is holding steady at four offers from Utah, Utah State, Nebraska and Arizona. Everyone that has offered Wilson to this point is recruiting him as a wide receiver. BYU has expressed interest in Wilson, but to play in the secondary. Nebraska is also talking about being able to use Wilson on returning duties. It will be tough to get a good luck at his skills returning as no team has yet to kick or punt to Wilson. This coming weekend Wilson will be in attendance as Nebraska opens against Western Illinois. There are some things that Wilson will be looking for while he is in town. "I want to see how the players get along with the coaches. I want to see the facilities and see how they look. I also want to experience the game day atmosphere. I'd like to see if I can get a long with their coaches and the rest of their players there." Coach Bill Busch, formerly of the Utah, is recruiting Wilson. "Coach Busch is real good friends with my coach at Juan Diego and Coach Davis is one of my favorite coaches at Juan Diego. He's known Busch for a while and they are pretty close friends. So, I'm thinking that if anyone gets along with Coach Davis he's cool with me." "Nebraska is a real prestigious team and their known for their football. They are really on the up with Coach Bill Callahan who is there right now. Everyone at Nebraska is really excited about that." The change in offense and the coaching staff really has Wilson considering Nebraska when in the past he probably wouldn't. Ironically, Wilson is used this year the same way that Nebraska has used their wide receivers in the past when it comes to blocking for the run game and then catch a long pass every now and then to set up the run. "I really want to go there now because they are going to pass the ball. The offense that I am in right now in high school requires me to block a lot. I really would like to get the ball more as a receiver. We run a veer-option out of a pro set. Everything we do when it comes to the pass comes out of the option pass or play action." Wilson would like to have the ball more in his hands, obviously, when it comes to playing wide receiver. Nebraska may just present him with the opportunity.
