There has been much confusion and speculation regarding Danny Muy and his future at the University of Nebraska. This statement is an attempt to put the rumors to rest.

Danny Muy has requested a transfer from the University of Nebraska. This request has been granted by the coaching staff and the athletic director. Danny continues to attend classes and will take his semester exams. Following those exams, Danny will return to Tallahassee.

The year 2004 has been a very difficult year in the Muy/McPherson household. Danny’s mother was diagnosed in early 2004 with breast cancer. This diagnosis came at the same time as his commitment to NU. This situation delayed Danny’s arrival at Nebraska’s voluntary summer workout program. Since then, Danny has been understandably preoccupied with his mother’s diagnosis, multiple surgeries, treatment, therapy and ongoing recovery. Her recovery is proceeding very well and her prognosis is excellent.

Danny initiated the process to bring his situation at Nebraska to closure, to seek his release from the university and to make an effort to find a school closer to home. His decision displayed initiative and took a great deal of courage. We personally want to thank Theresa Becker in Nebraska’s compliance office and academic counselor Kim Schellpeper. Their professionalism and sincere concern for Danny’s well-being have been a tremendous source of strength to him during this process.

Danny has made many friends among the Nebraska football team. He will miss them. But the thing Danny will miss the most is the support and encouragement of the Husker fans. We want to thank the always-faithful Nebraska fans for all their notes of support and encouragement. They are truly the finest fans in sport.

Many Husker fans have asked what they can do to help. We ask that they help fund research to find a cure for breast cancer and do everything they can to promote awareness. Toward that end, we encourage Husker and Buffalo fans alike to wear something pink to the game this coming Friday, November 26th.

Danny Muy will forever be known as the first player to commit to Bill Callahan at Nebraska. His place in NU lore and history is assured.

To respect the privacy of all involved, this will be the only statement we will issue and neither we nor Danny will take calls or answer questions from the media, at this time. We ask that you respect our wishes on this matter.

In closing, we anticipate that whatever school Danny attends may elect to file a hardship waiver to waive the one-year Division 1-A waiting period and allow him to play immediately. We are hopeful the NCAA will honor the request, if indeed it is made, and allow Danny to return to active football status next season.
