Nebraska was the first to offer Mike Smith, the standout out defensive end from Las Vegas (Nev.) Palo Verde. The problem might not be that Smith has received other offers, but where those other offers might take him. There is no doubt that staying close to home for Smith would be a blessing to him, but would an offer from a California school be too much to pass up?

Mike Smith should be considered one of Nebraska's earliest recruiting targets. The Huskers offered Smith very early in the process and sort of discovered what a recruiting world would have still ultimately found.
