Chamberlain, a preseason first-team
All-American was dominant in his 2006 debut, holding No. 19 North Carolina State
to just two singles over 7.1 shutout innings in Nebraska’s win on Friday. Chamberlain fanned
seven and took a no-hitter into the fifth against a team that entered the game
hitting .460 as a team and averaging over 17 runs per game. With the win,
Chamberlain improved to 5-1 with a 1.89 ERA in eight starts against
nationally-ranked teams during his Husker career.
It is the third career honor for
Chamberlain, as he picked up the honor twice in 2005. Oklahoma’s Joseph Hughes
was picked as the Big 12 Hitter of the Week for games ending on Feb.
19.
The Huskers return to action this
weekend, as they travel to Houston, Texas, for the Rice Invitational at Reckling Park. NU, which is 3-1 and ranked as high
as third in the national polls, will take on Texas State
(Friday, 1 p.m.), No. 3 Rice (Saturday, 1 p.m.) and St. John’s (Sunday, Noon)
during the three-day tournament.
