Sarah Pavan Receives Big 12 Honor

Nebraska volleyball All-American Sarah Pavan received another honor Monday, as she was named the Big 12 Player of the Week for Sept. 4-10 by the conference office.

Sarah Pavan led top-ranked Nebraska to a 3-0 record last weekend, claiming the Ameritas Players Challenge title. It is the fourth time that she has been awarded the Big 12’s weekly honor.

Pavan averaged 6.70 points, 5.90 kills (.409 hitting percentage) and 2.30 digs in three matches, including victories over nationally ranked Louisville and Cal Poly. Against the Cardinals, she became the 18th Husker to eclipse the 1,000-kill mark, tallying 18 kills on a .452 hitting clip. It was the fastest that any Husker has reached the 1,000 kill mark, breaking the previous record of 238 games by current U.S. National Team member Nancy Metcalf.

After totaling 18 kills and three aces in a sweep of No. 25 Cal Poly, Pavan closed out the weekend with her first double-double of the year, totaling 23 kills on .426 hitting and 11 digs in a win over Minnesota to claim Ameritas Players Challenge MVP honors.

Pavan and the rest of the top-ranked Huskers return to action on Wednesday, when they open Big 12 action against Kansas. First serve is set for 7 p.m. and the match can be heard across the state on the Pinnacle Sports Network (B107.3 FM in Lincoln and Omaha) and on Huskers.com.

Wednesday’s match will also be shown state-wide on NET-1 and NET-HD while being simulcast nationally on CSTV.
