Griffin Earns Big 12 Player-of-the-Week Award

Nebraska sophomore forward Kelsey Griffin shared Big 12 Player-of-the-Week honors with Tiffany Jackson from Texas, the Big 12 Conference office in Irving, Texas, announced on Monday afternoon.

Kelsey Griffin averaged 21.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game as Nebraska opened Big 12 Conference action with its first-ever win at Texas, before suffering a narrow setback to No. 8 Oklahoma at home.

It was Griffin's first award of the season and third of her career. Griffin scored 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field while adding seven rebounds to help the Huskers defeat Jackson and the Longhorns in Austin on Wednesday night. Griffin followed her strong effort against the UT All-American by scoring a game-high 22 points to go along with eight rebounds against OU All-American Courtney Paris in the Huskers' loss to the Sooners.

For the season, Griffin leads Nebraska in both scoring and rebounding with 16.1 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. She also ranks among the top 25 players in the nation with her 58.5 field goal percentage.

Jackson, who scored 28 against the Huskers and added 20 points and eight rebounds in the Longhorns win over No. 10 Purdue over the weekend was honored for the second time this season and ninth overall. Baylor's Danielle Wilson was named the league's rookie of the week.

Griffin and the Huskers will enjoy the mid-week off before taking on the Kansas Jayhawks at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kan., on Saturday, Jan. 13, at 7:05 p.m.
