Byford Named to Rimington Trophy Watch List

Brett Byford

Nebraska senior center Brett Byford was one of 46 centers named to the 2007 Rimington Trophy Spring Watch List on Tuesday.

The 6-3, 300-pound Byford is one of four Big 12 centers on the watch list. Byford started the final 13 games last season and earned honorable-mention All-Big 12 honors from the Associated Press and Big 12 Coaches. His performance helped Nebraska rank in the top 25 nationally in rushing, passing, scoring and total offense.

The eight year old trophy is presented by Canon, Cornhusker Marriott, and Logitech. The award is hosted by the Boomer Esiason Foundation. Former Nebraska great Dave Rimington is the namesake for the award, presented annually to the nation's top center. Husker Dominic Raiola was the first recipient of the award in 2000.

The winner is selected by determining the consensus All-American center pick from four existing All America Teams including:

  • American Football Coaches Association
  • Walter Camp Foundation
  • Sporting News
  • Football Writers Association of America

The winner will be honored at an awards banquet at the Rococo Theater in Lincoln in January of 2008.
