Pavan
was selected as the AVCA College Volleyball Showcase MVP after averaging 5.57
kills on .382 hitting, 2.00 digs, 1.00 blocks and 0.43 service aces.
The
2007 Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year tallied a match-high 14 kills and a
.417 hitting percentage along with four blocks and a pair of aces in the sweep
of Tennessee
on Friday. It marked the Huskers’ 1,000th victory, becoming the third
Division I team to accomplish the milestone.
Pavan
then led NU with team-leading 25 kills (.362), 12 digs and three blocks in the
four-game win over No. 5 UCLA on Saturday to claim the AVCA Showcase
title. Her 25 kills were the second-highest total of her career and the
most by a Husker since 2004. Pavan also recorded her 13th career
double-double while posting at least 20 kills in a match for the 19th
time.
DEFENSIVE
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Christina Houghtelling, Nebraska, OH, Sr., 6-2, Cambridge, Neb./Cambridge
Houghtelling
contributed 5.00 digs and 0.86 blocks per game to the Husker effort in her first
action since the 2005 season. She compiled a career-high 23 digs and two
blocks in NU’s victory over fifth-ranked UCLA. Houghtelling surpassed her
previous high of 20 (Oklahoma, 2005) to earn the 11th double-double
of her career after recording 10 kills.
Against
Tennessee,
Houghtelling collected a team-high 12 digs and added four blocks in the
tournament opener. Houghtelling and the Husker defense held the Lady Vols
to a .088 hitting percentage in three games.
