There was a lot of speculation and perhaps a little angst over the potential departure of Nebraska's leading rusher last season. But Lucky officially put those rumors to rest today as he issued a release through the University, that he would indeed be coming back to Nebraska.

There’s little doubt that everyone could be breathing a sigh of relief knowing that junior Marlon Lucky will now be officially known as senior Marlon Lucky, at the University of Nebraska. The North Hollywood prep star released a statement today, officially announcing that he wouldn’t be following a slew of other junior running backs in opting for the NFL Draft this year.

“I am excited to return to Nebraska for my senior season and play for Coach (Bo) Pelini,” Lucky said. “I know he is committed to winning and returning this program to the elite of college football, and I want to be here to help out with that.

“Another year here will also allow me to continue to pursue my college degree and enjoy the experience of playing football at Nebraska. I also know that another year can only benefit me as a player and help me become a more complete back to prepare for the next level.”

Today was the official deadline to declare for the NFL Draft, and there hasn’t been any real certainty until now as to just what Lucky was going to do. We might have gotten a little hint about it yesterday, though, when Collins Okafor, in a press conference where he reaffirmed his commitment to Nebraska, said that Lucky told him he would indeed be returning to NU.

Lucky rushed for a team-high 1,057 yards last season, accounting for well over half the total output of the big red on the ground. The senior-to-be also led the team in pass receptions, hauling in 75 passes for 705 yards and three touchdowns. Lucky scored nine touchdowns on the ground.

While he will no doubt be the incumbent at starter, there will be a host of players competing for time, including fellow seniors Cody Glenn and Kenny Wilson, along with sophomores Quentin Castille and Roy Helu.
