The Sooners
played very flat and showed no motivation throughout the entire game. It was almost like they did not really
want to be there. To put
Oklahoma’s
performance into coaching terms; I would say that the Sooner’s play last night
is how you never want your team to play.
Sure it is tough
to be motivated when your team shot 17-46 on field goals, and 5-20 from beyond
the arc, but it is no excuse to just stop trying all together. Nebraska did whatever they wanted and it
worked all night against the Sooners.
Steve Harley
stepped up huge and contributed 17 points for the Huskers. Harley shot 7-l1 from inside the arc,
and hit 3 out of 5 three point attempts.
Oklahoma did cover Alexs Maric well in the
opening minutes, but he is truly a force that cannot be stopped and found his
ways of getting the ball. Maric
ended the game with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and had three assists.
Cookie Miller’s
open spot in the line-up due to a shoulder injury against the Aggies, was filled
very well with the help of Paul Verlander.
The Blacksburg,
Virginia native knocked down three
huge shots from beyond the arc to answer Sooner baskets.
Verlander ended
the game with 11 points and shot 100% from everywhere on the court. Paul Verlander’s performance against the
Sooners was very impressive and I think Doc needs to use this kid more. He is always giving 110% when he is out
on the court, and his shooting form is flawless!
Flawless. Also the perfect word to describe the
Cornhuskers overall performance last night against Oklahoma. Nebraska did whatever they pleased and stomped
the life out of the Sooners.
Oklahoma never really came close to
threatening Nebraska’s lead.
The 17 point
deficit the Sooners had to overcome going into the half was a huge factor in the
win. The lead truly sucked the life
out of Oklahoma for the second half and they
just could not match the play of Nebraska. Similar to the Kansas State
game, every Nebraska player who stepped foot on
the court contributed to the 63-45 win over Oklahoma.
This win now puts
Nebraska on a
three game win streak and moves their overall record to 17-9, and 6-7 in the Big
XII. The Cornhuskers now hit the
road for a two game away stand against Oklahoma State and Texas.
Nebraska returns to Lincoln on March
9th for its final home game of the season against the Colorado
Buffaloes.
If
we keep playing like we are now, me may be coming back home with another upset
win over a Top 25 team.
