Nebraska offers second at Trinity

Siosaia "L.T." Tuipulotu

It's becoming a fairly frequent thing; schools come in and offer multiple players. Nebraska received a commitment from Dontrayevous Robinson a couple of weeks ago and about that time that he committed his best friend, a team mate, was also offered. Nebraska has already received a commitment from one Texas DT, Thaddeus Randle, could this player be the second?

Siosaia Tuipulotu, known as "L.T." (his middle and last initial) is a 6-foot-2 and 285-pound defensive tackle from Euless (Texas) Trinity. Trinity, a powerhouse in 5A in Texas, just completed their spring camp.

"Everything went good," Tuipulotu said. "I have been trying to get better than last year. I have been training and tried to step up as a leader.

"I have been stepping up into that role. I have been working on it. You are a leader as a senior, but I am working on doing it by example."

"L.T." has good size when it comes to playing defensive tackle. He knows that if you do your job as a defensive tackle that the system and the defense works. You have to do your job.

"I would say my physical strength. I also key on my job and key on my gap. If you do your job then there isn't any problem playing the position.

"I like to stop the run and rush the quarterback from my position. I like to run. It just depends on each play and what you have to do."

Tuipulotu isn't sure what his stats were last year, but if the honor that he picked up is any indication of how well he did in his first year of varsity then his stats had to be pretty good.

"I don't know what my stats were last year, but I was first district last season as a junior. Last year was my first year on varsity."

There are currently four teams that have stepped up to offer L.T. Out of those four, there is one team that is on top because of a trip that he has taken to see them.

"I have four offers right now. They are from Nebraska, Utah, SMU and Utah. I would say that Utah is my first choice.

"I went over there and saw them practice. Everything went well there. I liked how they practice and stuff. I think that they have had some guys go pro."

When Tuipulotu makes his decision he will be looking at the education quality at a school and for that family environment as a team. He wants a team that works well with one another.

"I am looking for the education first. I like it when a team works out together and is a family. I want to find a team that works together."

Sometimes the Polynesian culture is a big part of a decision, but not with L.T. He is really focused on going somewhere that is best for him and his goals. Taking a mission after high school, however, is important.

"It doesn't matter to me. I really want to go to some place that can just help me reach my goals. I am planning on taking my mission. I have been planning for it my whole life."

The Huskers might have an ace in the hole with Tuipulotu because his team mate and best friend, Dontrayevous Robinson, is already committed to Nebraska.

"Right now, Nebraska is number two on my list. I really like them and am really interested in them. Tray and I are very good friends, like brothers.

"Tray and I were talking about Nebraska and why he likes them. He said that they have a lot of people that go pro as a running back. Also, they love their football.

"I am thinking about Nebraska and talking to the coaches about talking about the mission. I am very interested in Nebraska too. I need to talk to them about the mission."
