Good news for Gardiner

It just seems that every year Port Arthur (Texas) Memorial has one of the top cornerbacks in the year. It only seems that way because it's true. This year they have Desmond Gardiner that is garnering all of the attention. Already sitting on a double-digit offer total, Gardiner picked up his latest offer verbally last night from a team with ties to Memorial High School.

Coach Mike Ekeler is becoming a bit of a legend at Nebraska on the recruiting trail in such a short time. Last night, Desmond Gardiner called Nebraska and got some good news.

"I called Nebraska," Gardiner said. "They offered me. I am really excited about it. It's one of the best defenses in the nation that just offered me."

The 6-foot-0 and 165-pound Gardiner is now well into a double-digit offer total, but everyone is even. He has been weighing things out right now and knows how his process will go.

"I don't have any favorites right now, not at all. I have been doing the pros and cons of every college from the football aspect to the academic aspect for me.

"Everyone is the same right now. I will sit down and pick out the schools that I will go and visit and then on signing day I am going to go and make my choice."

Gardiner and Nebraska talked about setting up an official visit. Gardiner said that if Nebraska gives him the chance to take an official to Lincoln that he will take it.

"They spoke to me about coming up for a game. If they offered me one I would take it. They did already talk to me about going up there for a game and everything. I'd be glad to take it."

When Gardiner called Nebraska, he spoke to Mike Ekeler, his recruiting coach. Gardiner has been calling Nebraska a lot recently and has also been getting a lot of mail from the Nebraska staff.

"Oh, he's cool, real laid back. He has been really good to work with and all of that. I got a letter from Nebraska last night and I was reading about the Blackshirts.

"To tell you the truth, they are one of the top defenses in the country, if I went there I might not play real early or as early as I want to. I think that I would play a little bit.

"I am not intimidated by it. I just know how good they really are and that you have to be to play there. It's a positive that I have to work harder this season, off-season this season and before next season."
