On in the injury front senior running back Marlon Lucky didn't practice, the rehab still on-going for a turf toe suffered last week. But Head Coach Bo Pelini said that he could have gone today if needed, and that missing practice along with wearing a boot when not practicing, is only to give him some rest and get the weight off that toe.
During former Husker running back Cory Ross's final year at Nebraska, he also wore a boot similar to this as he was suffering from a turf toe, but Ross's injury was graded as more severe than Lucky's, the Colorado native actually getting cortisone shots in his toe at one point to deal with the pain. Lucky is expected back to practice soon as the Huskers continue preparations for the Colorado Buffaloes.
Also missing practice today for the second straight day was senior quarterback Joe Ganz. Pelini said, though, that Ganz could have gone today as well as yesterday, and they are just resting him while getting quality reps to the back up quarterbacks, including true freshman Kody Spano.
Coach Pelini said after the full-padded practice today that he was very happy with the practices this entire week, and because of that, the team earned a couple of days off, heading back to practice this Sunday.
In the meantime the Head Coach said that he and much of the rest of the staff would continue their recruiting efforts as they had to several parts of the country to watch and meet with current commits, recruits and even hit on a few newly identified players as the Huskers try to get their class of 2009 complete.
Check out this post practice audio with the Husker Head Coach, along with Offensive Line Coach Barney Cotton as he talks about his offensive line, the progression, what he looks for, what he sees and, of course, the match up with the season-ending game with the Colorado Buffaloes.
