Posted Sep 8, 2009

Nebraska outside hitter Hannah Werth was selected as the Big 12's Rookie of the Week for matches ending on Sept. 6. It is her first Big 12 honor and the first weekly award won by a Husker this season.

Hannah Werth, a freshman from Springfield, Ill., averaged 2.91 kills on .273 hitting, 2.45 digs and 0.27 service aces per set in three contests as part of NU's 4-0 week. Werth led the Huskers with a career-high 13 kills while hitting at a .455 clip and tallying nine digs and a pair of aces against UL-Lafayette. She then collected her first career double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs in NU's five-set win at LSU.

Texas setter Ashley Engle and Iowa State libero Ashley Mass won the leagues offensive and defensive weekly honors, respectively. The fifth-ranked Huskers return to action this Thursday night, as they take on Virginia in the Ameritas Players Challenge.
