Snead commits to Rebels!

Ole Miss pulled off one of the recruiting coups of the year today when Stephenville, TX, (via the University of Texas) QB Jevan Snead chose the Rebels over Houston and TCU after deciding to transfer from Texas after one season as a Longhorn. Read about it inside.
Jevan Snead
said he had a "great time" in Oxford over the weekend on his official visit.
Obviously, a couple of days in Oxford was all he needed to see and "great" turned into "committed."
"It was the people of Ole Miss - the coaches, everyone associated with the school - made me feel like part of the family. I can't wait to be a Rebel. I am extremely excited," said Snead moments after making his choice.
The talented, 6-3, 215-pound QB from Stephenville, TX, committed to the Rebels tonight after meeting with his parents about his decision.
Snead was the backup QB to Colt McCoy this year at Texas, but felt he would be better off leaving the Longhorn program after his freshman season.
Houston, TCU and Ole Miss were on his list of favorites, with the Rebels getting the nod for his services.
"All I needed was to see everything. It was just like Coach (Dan) Werner and Coach (Ed) Orgeron said it was going to be, even better," he continued. "I am very, very excited."
Snead played in a couple of games when McCoy got hurt in 2006 and produced some good numbers, but it looked as if McCoy, only a redshirt freshman himself, would be the starter the next three years while Snead, a year behind him, but in the same class eligibility-wise, would most likely be relegated to a backup role unless something drastic happened.
Jevan, a National Honor Student and an icon in the Stephenville area, started looking around a few weeks ago.
He visited Ole Miss over the weekend, after visiting Houston on Thursday, and had his high school coach and mentor, Chad Morris, join him on his official visit last Saturday in Oxford.
Both beamed about Oxford and Ole Miss after they departed.
Snead said he will enroll at Ole Miss in January and sign in February as part of the Rebs allotment of 25 initial scholarships for 2007.
He will be able to go through spring training and will practice in the fall, but he will have to sit out the 2007 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
Jevan was an Army All-American his senior season in high school and was rated as one of the top five QBs in the country by Scout.com after throwing for over 3,500 yards and 31 TDs.
During last year's recruiting process, he committed to Florida, but later opted to stay in the state of Texas and sign with the Longhorns.
