| Years at
Nebraska: Solich is entering his fifth season as head coach, and his
24th overall on the Nebraska coaching staff. He served for 15 years (1983-97) as
Nebraska's running backs coach after four seasons as the Husker head freshman
coach. He was promoted to assistant head coach in 1991 and held that position
until he was named head coach in December of 1997. Solich is 42-9 (.824) as the
Huskers' head coach and Nebraska's record in Solich's 23 years on staff is
242-42-1 (.851). He was named head coach by Director of Athletics Bill Byrne on
Dec. 10, 1997, the same day Tom Osborne announced his retirement, effective
after the 1998 Orange Bowl game.

Playing Career: High
school—Played football at Cleveland's Holy Name High School, earned All-America,
All-Ohio and All-Scholastic honors in 1961. College—Football: three years as a
fullback at Nebraska, lettering in 1963-64-65; Baseball: 1965 at
Nebraska.
