Pelini says he is healthy

Describing his life as balanced, Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini says he is completely healthy after a small health scare this weekend.

Lincoln, NE - Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini had a message for the media at his weekly press conference on Monday morning.

"I'm healthy as can be. You guys are stuck with me for a while," said the fifth-year head coach.

Pelini had a health scare on Saturday, after being taken to the hospital by ambulance during halftime of the Huskers 42-13 win over Arkansas State.

The head coach said he was feeling ill before the game and it progressively got worse during the contest. Pelini had symptoms of an upset stomach, heartburn, and dizziness.

"It was just a little bit of a scare," said Pelini. "I have never had health issues and still don't have health issues. Everything came back perfect. I feel great.

"They took the cautious approach...They just wanted to make sure some of the symptoms weren't leading to something else. I was released later that afternoon. I got to go home and relax and was back to work on Sunday."

Pelini currently runs about four miles a day and says he "gets after it" when working out.

The 44-year old said it was an "isolated matter" and doesn't want fans to worry about possible stress related problems.

"I got a lot of calls and text messages and appreciated all the concern," said Pelini, who got well wishes from both fans and the media. "I thought the staff and football team did a great job."

Pelini did not talk to his players at halftime and defensive coordinator John Papuchis took over as acting-head coach for the rest of the Huskers' win. At 34, Papuchis is currently the youngest solo-defensive coordinator in the country.

During the third quarter, Papuchis was seen multiple times pumping up the crowd and wildly celebrating with his team during key moments.

"JP is a pretty emotional guy. He's the one that probably needs to see doctors," said a laughing Pelini. "I have seen that out of JP before. I've been around the guy for a long time."

On Monday players were excited to see Pelini in the office.

"Coach Bo, he's a trooper. We're happy that he's healthy and glad he's back," said Nebraska senior safety P.J. Smith.
