Meeker Beginning Camps
Bryce Meeker began earning his reputation as a freshman starter on the varsity. The Cedar Rapids (Iowa) Prairie offensive lineman burst onto the national scene this spring. Meeker, a junior-to-be, matched up with older players at a recent scouting combine in Chicago. He was named one of the standouts at the event, where he was among some of the top athletes in the region. "I feel like I held my own," the 6-foot-6, 290-pound Meeker said. "It's nice to see some things come together." The performance in the Windy City earned Meeker one of 250 invitations to a national underclassmen combine July 7 in Dallas. It also sparked an uptick in his recruitment. "It's picked up a lot; a lot more letters; a lot more phone calls," Meeker said. "Some coaches have come and visited." Iowa Assistants Reese Morgan and Brian Ferentz visited Prairie this spring along with Iowa State's Courtney Messingham. Illinois State's coaches stopped there last week and offered Meeker his first scholarship. Meeker likes where he stands with the Hawkeyes and Cyclones. "I feel a really strong relationship with both of the schools," he said. With a faster recruiting cycle these days, schools are offering plenty of players in the 2015 Class and beyond. "It's frustrating because I've been working hard," Meeker said. "I know how much time and work I've put into it. Yet, schools are still waiting to offer. "It's frustrating but at the same time I'll stay patient. I'll keep working for the scholarships that I want." Meeker kicks off his summer camp schedule Sunday at Iowa State with the goal of earning scholarship offers. He will be back in Ames on June 9 and then head to Nebraska (June 12-14), Iowa (June 15) and Northern Iowa (June 19). "Nebraska has been contacting my head coach a lot through emails," Meeker said. "Nebraska was one of the first teams to start recruiting me." When he's not visiting schools or camping at them, Meeker plans to lift weights and work on his agility daily this summer. He also expects to spend a lot of time doing individual drills to improve his technique. In the fall, Meeker will attend games at Iowa, Iowa State, Nebraska and UNI.
