His time has come

Nebraska senior Mike Moudy is taking ownership of the 2014 Huskers. The senior talks about following a player like Spencer Long and the competition with Chongo Kondolo at right guard.

LINCOLN, Neb. - Offensive lineman Mike Moudy has waited his turn. Now the senior says it’s time for a player like himself to take ownership of this team heading into the 2014 season.

“This goes fast, I can’t believe I’m already here,” said Moudy after five years in the program. “This is the time you take ownership of the team and the seniors have done that.”

The Colorado native sat out of spring practices with a shoulder injury, but has battled back to be the apparent starter at right guard opposite of Jake Cotton.

Moudy, who sat behind Spencer Long last fall camp, says his time was the now Washington Redskin offensive lineman was invaluable.

“Seeing his reaction to things that happened during the game bleeds out to the rest of the offensive line,” said Moudy. “His emotions and attitude to the game spread out to everyone else, everyone was able to feed off that.”

Moudy replaced Long after the All-American torn his knee against Purdue early in Big Ten play last season.

“Even though he was in a mentorship role with me after Purdue, he was there with me,” said Moudy. “I would come off the sidelines and he would tell me what I did right, what I did wrong, and I would be ready. I wouldn’t make that mistake again.”
