The Huskers were first to offer Waymon James, a 5-foot-8 and 203-pound running back from Sherman (Texas) with 4.4/40 speed. James has torn up his district the past two years.
"My sophomore year I had 161 rushing attempts for 1,295 yards and 14 touchdowns," James said. "As a junior I had 131 carries for 1,500 yards and 16 touchdowns. I was voted the district MVP the past two years."
Sherman runs a spread, and James does have some receiving stats but wasn't sure what they were, but what the spread does do for James is open things up underneath for him to break loose.
"I am a good inside runner. I can find the holes, bounce it outside and then come back in. I run down hill all the time."
"I picked it up today. I was on my way to the locker room and it was in my locker. It said that they were interested and that they were offering. They told me keep excelling in the classroom, keep my head up and keep doing my work."
The first offer is always special. This offer though came from Nebraska and that adds some value to it considering the tradition that Nebraska brings to the table.
"It made me feel like they really wanted me to come to their school. I know that they really want me."
James will be heading down to the Scout.com combine in Dallas and then will hit a Nike combine on April 26th. There are also some plans to hit some team camps.
Nebraska is now a team that James is considering taking a trip to see and camp at this summer. "Oh yeah. My coaches said that they were going to get me some information about Nebraska's camps."
